The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially unveiled the academic timetable for the 2025/2026 school year, offering a structured guide for Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools nationwide.
This updated calendar is designed to promote consistency in academic activities and allow adequate preparation time for pupils, particularly those preparing for the pivotal Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
In a formal announcement signed by Daniel Fenyi, the newly appointed Director of Public Relations at GES, the institution laid out detailed timelines for school reopening, term breaks, holidays, and examination periods across all three terms.
Mr. Fenyi’s appointment has been welcomed for its potential to enhance openness and engagement with stakeholders, especially in light of previous concerns about communication lapses within the Service.
The first term of the 2025/2026 academic year will begin on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, and end on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
Students and educators will then take a Christmas break from Friday, December 19, 2025, to Tuesday, January 7, 2026. A mid-term recess is also scheduled from October 31 to November 3, 2025, offering a short pause during the busy term.
The second term will resume on Wednesday, January 8, 2026, and continue until Wednesday, April 1, 2026. This will be followed by an Easter holiday from April 2 to April 20, 2026. The third and final term is set to start on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, and conclude on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
