Seth Terkper Named Presidential Advisor on Economy

Seth Terkper, Ghana’s former Minister of Finance, has been appointed as the Presidential Advisor on the Economy.

In this role, he will provide strategic counsel to President John Mahama on critical economic issues, including fiscal policy, debt management, and strategies to boost economic recovery .

Terkper’s appointment comes at a crucial time for Ghana, as the country faces economic headwinds such as rising inflation, public debt concerns, and currency depreciation.

His expertise is expected to help shape policies that foster growth, stabilize the macroeconomic environment, and enhance investor confidence.

As Presidential Advisor, Terkper will collaborate with Finance Minister-designate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to implement economic policies under the Mahama administration.

Terkper brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having served as Finance Minister from 2013 to 2017. During his tenure, he implemented key fiscal reforms, improved public financial management, and stabilized the national economy.

Terkper’s background includes negotiating Ghana’s Extended Credit Facility (ECF) program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and introducing policies like the Energy Sector Levy Act (ESLA) to address energy sector debt.

His experience and insights will be invaluable in helping Ghana navigate its economic challenges and drive sustainable growth.
