The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has destroyed illicit drugs with an estimated street value of more than US$10 million as part of efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse in the country.
The destruction exercise was carried out on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at the Bundase Infantry Training School in the Greater Accra Region.
According to NACOC, the exercise involved narcotic substances that had been seized through various operations and were destroyed following the acquisition of the necessary court orders.
The destroyed drugs included 564.39 kilogrammes of cannabis, estimated to be worth US$112,878.
Also destroyed were 4,730,100 capsules and tablets of synthetic opioids, with an estimated value of US$5,912,625.
In addition, the Commission disposed of approximately 338,000 bottles of codeine-infused cough mixture, valued at about US$4,225,000.
NACOC said the exercise forms part of its ongoing efforts to eradicate the trafficking and circulation of illicit substances in Ghana and to protect public health and national security.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to intensifying enforcement operations against drug trafficking syndicates and ensuring that confiscated narcotics are safely disposed of in accordance with legal procedures.
Officials noted that the destruction of the seized substances sends a strong signal of Ghana’s resolve to combat illegal drug activities and prevent harmful substances from finding their way back into circulation.
