The Senior Staff Association (SSA) and the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU-GTA Division) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) have formally petitioned the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, demanding clarification on a number of issues they describe as critical to staff welfare, transparency and institutional accountability.
In a letter dated October 14, 2026, the staff associations expressed concern over recent administrative decisions and operational developments within the Authority, stating that growing agitation among workers had necessitated a meeting to collate concerns and seek urgent answers from management.
According to the petition, staff are seeking detailed clarification on the Ghana Tourism Authority’s involvement in activities connected to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including visa facilitation arrangements, partnerships and the allocation of opportunities associated with the tournament.
The unions noted that discussions circulating on various platforms regarding the Authority’s role in World Cup-related engagements had raised concerns among employees. They therefore called on management to provide information on procurement and partnership arrangements, visa slot allocations and embassy engagements, as well as the distribution of opportunities among board members, management and staff.
The petition also seeks an explanation of the Authority’s relationship with the Tribe Culture Fest initiative.
Another key concern raised by the staff groups relates to the employment and subsequent dismissal of two individuals identified as Mr. Bright Asempa Tsadey and Mr. Sadat Sena Abdulai.
The unions are requesting details on their employment status, appointment processes, official roles and responsibilities, as well as clarification on allegations linking the two individuals to a reported United States visa scandal.
The staff associations further expressed concern over delays in the payment of outstanding staff allowances and Provident Fund arrears.
While acknowledging the commitment and dedication of employees despite the delays, the unions warned that the prolonged non-payment of entitlements was negatively affecting staff morale, particularly amid prevailing economic challenges.
They called on management to provide a comprehensive update on all outstanding allowances and Provident Fund obligations and urged the prompt settlement of all arrears owed to staff.
The SSA and PSWU-GTA Division have also requested a formal engagement between management and staff across the country within five working days of receiving the petition to address the concerns raised.
The unions emphasized their commitment to constructive dialogue, transparency and accountability, expressing hope that management would respond swiftly in the interest of staff welfare, institutional credibility and the continued effective functioning of the Ghana Tourism Authority.
The petition was jointly signed by SSA President, Reginald Malm, and PSWU-GTA Division Chairman, Osman Ajedi.
