The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), through the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme, has provided emergency cash support to households affected by recent flooding in Hohoe in the Volta Region.
The intervention follows severe flooding that struck parts of the municipality on September 28, 2026, after heavy rainfall caused the River Dayi to overflow its banks. The disaster damaged homes and property, disrupted livelihoods and left many families in urgent need of assistance.
Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, visited the affected communities on September 30 to assess the extent of the damage and interact with residents. Following the visit, she directed that immediate measures be taken to support affected households and help ease the hardships caused by the floods.
According to the Ministry, the emergency cash assistance is intended to enable beneficiaries to meet their immediate needs, including the purchase of food and other essential household items, replacement of lost belongings and settlement of urgent expenses arising from the disaster.
The Ministry noted that the intervention forms part of efforts to provide financial relief to affected families as they work to restore their livelihoods and recover from the impact of the flooding.
A total of 625 people from the first batch of identified flood-affected households are benefiting from the emergency support programme.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to assisting vulnerable populations during emergencies and ensuring that affected communities receive timely support to facilitate their recovery and resilience.
