The Governing Council of the Institute of Directors (IoD), led by its President and Chair of Council, Mrs. Mary Asare-Yeboah, has paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament to seek guidance on the legislative process required to secure a charter for the Institute.
The visit focused on discussions regarding the promulgation of legislation that would provide the legal framework for the establishment of the Institute’s charter, a move aimed at strengthening its mandate and role in promoting corporate governance and professional leadership standards in Ghana.
Receiving the delegation, the Speaker of Parliament assured the Council of Parliament’s support in advancing the proposed legislation.
He described the Institute’s pursuit of a charter as a commendable initiative that would contribute significantly to strengthening corporate governance practices in the country.
“Your quest for a charter is a worthy cause that will strengthen corporate governance in our country. I will direct the appropriate committee to engage with your Council and provide the necessary guidance to ensure the bill follows due parliamentary procedure,” the Speaker stated.
Mrs. Asare-Yeboah expressed appreciation to the Speaker for the warm reception and guidance provided during the meeting.
She indicated that the Council would take immediate steps to act on the advice received and continue working towards achieving the Institute’s charter objectives.
The IoD President also reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to promoting high standards of corporate governance, ethical leadership and professionalism across both the public and private sectors.
The proposed charter is expected to provide a stronger institutional framework for the Institute as it seeks to enhance director professionalism and contribute to improved governance practices nationwide.
