The Ministry of Education has expressed appreciation to three teacher unions for suspending their nationwide strike following negotiations with the Government and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
In a statement issued on October 9, 2026, the Ministry commended the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG) for their decision to end the industrial action.
The Ministry described the move as a positive step towards resolving outstanding concerns through dialogue, mutual understanding and constructive engagement in the interest of teachers and learners.
According to the statement, the Ministry remains committed to working collaboratively with the teacher unions, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and other relevant stakeholders to address unresolved issues while promoting the welfare of teachers.
It said efforts would continue to ensure stability within the education sector and guarantee the uninterrupted delivery of quality education across the country.
The Ministry also acknowledged the patience and resilience demonstrated by teachers, parents, learners and other stakeholders affected by the strike action.
It urged all parties to sustain the spirit of cooperation and good faith that characterised the negotiations in order to consolidate the gains achieved through the engagement process.
Reaffirming its commitment to industrial harmony, the Ministry stated that it would continue to create an enabling environment in which teachers are valued, supported and empowered to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s education transformation agenda.
The statement, signed by the Ministry’s Press Secretary, Hashim Mohammed, underscored the government’s commitment to maintaining constructive relations with education sector stakeholders and ensuring that issues affecting teachers are addressed through dialogue and consensus-building.
