Ministry of Education Pays Tribute to Teachers on World Teachers’ Day

The Ministry of Education has commended teachers across Ghana for their dedication, professionalism and sacrifices in shaping the nation’s future, as the country joined the rest of the world to celebrate World Teachers’ Day 2026.

In a statement issued on October 5, the ministry described teachers as the backbone of Ghana’s education system, acknowledging their critical role in developing the minds, character and future of children across the country.

The ministry particularly recognised educators serving in deprived and hard-to-reach communities, noting that their commitment continues to make a significant impact on the lives of thousands of learners.

“Teachers remain at the heart of Ghana’s education system and play a critical role in shaping the minds, character and future of our children,” the statement said.

The ministry reiterated government’s commitment to transforming the education sector through policies focused not only on expanding access but also on improving quality, learning outcomes, relevant skills acquisition and human capital development.

According to the statement, no education reform can succeed without teachers, making their contributions essential to the achievement of national development goals.

The ministry therefore pledged to continue engaging teachers, unions and other stakeholders to strengthen the teaching profession, enhance professional development opportunities and address concerns related to welfare and working conditions.

It also called on parents, communities and all Ghanaians to appreciate and support teachers for their invaluable contributions to national development.

On the occasion of World Teachers’ Day, the ministry expressed gratitude to teachers for their service and dedication to the nation.

“Thank you for your dedication. Thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for shaping Ghana’s future,” the statement said.

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually on October 5 to recognise the contributions of teachers and highlight the importance of the teaching profession in national development and social progress.
