Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has held a cordial meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Comrade Bruno Eduardo Rodríguez Parrilla, to strengthen Ghana–Cuba relations and advance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The meeting provided an opportunity to renew Ghana’s longstanding solidarity with Cuba. Discussions focused on healthcare, scholarships and training, energy cooperation, agriculture, and economic engagement, including technical collaboration to address energy and infrastructure challenges.
The ministers reviewed their excellent bilateral relations, particularly the enduring health cooperation that has enabled Cuban medical volunteers to serve in Ghana and facilitated the training of Ghanaian doctors in Cuba. Hon. Ablakwa expressed Ghana’s solidarity with the Cuban people amid current challenges, commending their resilience and reaffirming Ghana’s friendship and support.
The two sides also exchanged views on international developments, stressing the importance of solidarity among developing countries, respect for sovereignty and international law, and strengthened multilateral cooperation. Echoing President Mahama’s recent UN address, Ghana reiterated its call for the unconditional lifting of sanctions against Cuba.
Hon. Ablakwa noted Ghana’s satisfaction that relief items donated to Cuba in November 2025 arrived in good condition, made the intended impact, and were warmly appreciated by the Cuban people. He further conveyed Ghana’s congratulations on the centenary anniversary of Comrade Fidel Castro.
Both ministers agreed to deepen their longstanding partnership through practical and mutually beneficial cooperation that delivers tangible outcomes for their peoples.
