The Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has held a stakeholder consultative meeting on the Sekondi‑Takoradi (SEKTAK) Project, a strategic initiative to expand the Port of Takoradi into a Multi‑Purpose Marine Industrial Complex.
Hon. Nikpe explained that the vision for Takoradi Port extends beyond conventional port operations to include complementary infrastructure and activities that will support shipping, offshore operations, business and trade, as well as improved connectivity and facilities to drive the development of a modern port city in Takoradi.
The consultation brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on the proposed project and its potential to transform Takoradi into an integrated marine, industrial, and logistics hub. Project proponents outlined plans to reclaim approximately 1,000 hectares of new land from the sea to establish the complex.
Officials clarified that the SEKTAK Project is intended to complement, not compete with or replace, the existing Takoradi Port. They emphasized that the initiative would not involve the acquisition of farmlands or the displacement of existing settlements.
The meeting underscored government’s commitment to harnessing Takoradi’s strategic location to boost Ghana’s maritime economy, attract investment, and strengthen the country’s role in regional trade and offshore operations.
