The Egyptian Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Wael Fathy Ahmed, has paid a working visit to the Minister for Defence, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, at The Square in Accra, as part of efforts to strengthen defence cooperation and deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the Ambassador to familiarize himself with the operations of Ghana’s Ministry of Defence and explore areas for enhanced collaboration.
Welcoming the envoy, Hon. Adjei expressed Ghana’s appreciation for Egypt’s longstanding friendship and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to advancing bilateral defence relations, particularly in defence manufacturing, technology transfer, and capacity building. He commended Egypt’s continued support to the Ghana Armed Forces through specialised training for military engineers, healthcare professionals, and technical officers, noting that strengthening the capabilities of the 48 Engineer Regiment in disaster response and infrastructure protection remains a national priority.
The Minister also acknowledged Egypt’s extensive experience in border security, intelligence, and cybersecurity, proposing deeper cooperation in intelligence‑sharing, joint military exercises, and specialised training to enhance regional security and counter violent extremism in West Africa.
Ambassador Wael Fathy Ahmed congratulated Hon. Adjei on his appointment and reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to support the Ghana Armed Forces in key areas including cybersecurity, intelligence‑sharing, training, and border security. He further highlighted opportunities for joint ventures in defence manufacturing and technology transfer, reiterating Egypt’s commitment to providing specialised training for Ghanaian military personnel.
The meeting underscored the shared resolve of Ghana and Egypt to expand defence cooperation, enhance institutional capacity, and contribute to peace and stability in Ghana and the wider West African region.
