Vice President Jane Naana Opoku‑Agyemang has chaired a meeting of the Inter‑Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation to review the implementation of Ghana’s newly approved National Decentralisation Policy and Strategic Framework (2026–2030).
The Framework, recently endorsed by Cabinet, is designed to bring governance and public services closer to the people and make development more responsive to community needs. Addressing the Committee, the Vice President underscored that approval was only the first step, stressing that effective implementation is now paramount.
She noted that decentralisation requires Government to work across sectors, highlighting the interconnectedness of education, health, sanitation, infrastructure, finance, and local government. “Our institutions must coordinate their efforts rather than operate in silos,” she said.
The Vice President also emphasised the importance of citizen engagement, accountability, and adequate resourcing. She urged the public to understand the reforms, the responsibilities of institutions, and the role communities can play in making decentralisation work.
The Inter‑Ministerial Coordinating Committee, she explained, exists to foster dialogue, coordination, and collective action across Government. The task ahead, she added, is to translate the Framework into improved services and tangible benefits in people’s lives.
