The Secretary-General of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, Dr. Hyunik Hong, has led a delegation to present the Korea-Ghana Heritage Project to Ghana’s Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, and the Ghana Commission for UNESCO.
The initiative, themed “Empowering Climate Action, Strengthening Ghana’s Integrated Capacity for Climate Change Response in Heritage Conservation”, will run from 2026 to 2030. It is designed to strengthen Ghana’s ability to respond to the effects of climate change on both cultural and natural heritage sites.
The engagement provided a platform for the Korean delegation, the Ministry of Education, and the Ghana Commission for UNESCO to discuss the project’s objectives and explore areas of collaboration. Officials emphasized the importance of protecting Ghana’s heritage sites while building resilience against climate-related challenges.
Dr. Hong noted that the project reflects the longstanding cooperation between Ghana and the Republic of Korea in education, culture, and sustainable development. Hon. Iddrisu welcomed the initiative, stressing that it would complement Ghana’s broader climate response strategies while safeguarding national heritage.
The project is expected to deliver capacity-building programs, technical support, and collaborative frameworks that will enhance Ghana’s preparedness for climate impacts on heritage conservation.
