Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that government has paid GH¢877 million to sustain the Ghana School Feeding Programme, ensuring that children across the country continue to receive a hot meal every school day.
The initiative, one of government’s flagship social protection programmes, is aimed at improving school enrolment, attendance, and retention while supporting child nutrition and local food production.
Dr. Forson said the investment reflects government’s commitment to easing the burden on families and promoting inclusive education. “A hot meal, every school day, is not just about feeding our children — it is about securing their future,” he noted.
The announcement comes at a time when stakeholders have been calling for greater support to strengthen the programme’s sustainability and efficiency. The Finance Ministry emphasised that the allocation demonstrates government’s resolve to protect vulnerable households and ensure that no child is denied access to education because of hunger.
Observers say the continued funding of the School Feeding Programme is expected to boost learning outcomes, improve child health, and contribute to Ghana’s broader social development goals.
