The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Australia in sustainable mining and renewable energy, as he received the Open Letters of the High Commissioner‑Designate of Australia to Ghana, H.E. Keara Shaw, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra.
Welcoming H.E. Shaw, the Minister congratulated her on her appointment and expressed confidence that her tenure would further strengthen the longstanding and cordial relations between Ghana and Australia. He described Australia as one of Ghana’s valued partners and underscored the importance of expanding collaboration in sectors of mutual interest.
Hon. Ablakwa highlighted Ghana’s determination to leverage Australia’s mining expertise, particularly in implementing reforms aimed at reclaiming degraded forests and polluted water bodies. He also identified renewable energy as a priority area, noting Ghana’s commitment to increasing solar energy use to advance its energy transition and sustainable development goals.
On her part, H.E. Shaw thanked the Minister for the warm reception and reaffirmed Australia’s readiness to deepen its partnership with Ghana. She emphasized the proud history of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, built on mutual respect and shared values. She further pledged Australia’s support for Ghana’s Reparative Justice agenda and assured close collaboration in advancing development priorities across trade, health, education, tourism, defence, arts, and culture.
The meeting marked a significant step in reinforcing Ghana–Australia relations, with both sides committed to translating shared aspirations into practical cooperation that benefits their peoples.
