Ghana’s education sector is set for a major facelift following announcements in the 2026 Mid‑Year Budget Review. Finance Minister Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson told Parliament that government will both upgrade existing institutions and expand infrastructure to meet growing demand.
Presenting the review, the Minister disclosed that 30 Category C secondary schools will be elevated to Category B, while 20 Category B schools will move up to Category A. In addition, he revealed plans to construct 10 new secondary schools and rehabilitate 150 existing ones across the country.
“These interventions are aimed at improving access and quality, ensuring that every Ghanaian child has the opportunity to learn in a conducive environment,” Hon. Forson stated.
The initiatives, powered by the Media Relations Department of Parliament, underscore government’s commitment to strengthening the foundation of human capital development. Education stakeholders have welcomed the measures, noting that the upgrades and rehabilitation works will ease congestion, enhance teaching standards, and bridge infrastructure gaps.
The Finance Minister emphasized that the projects form part of broader efforts to align educational outcomes with national development goals. Parliament is expected to debate the proposals in the coming weeks, with attention on funding allocations and timelines for implementation.
