The Bono East Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of six suspects in connection with a robbery on the Portor–Gurumpe Highway, recovering GH₵300,000 stolen during the attack.
According to police, the incident occurred on July 19 at about 8:30 p.m. near the Portor Police Barrier. Officers on duty received intelligence of a robbery in progress and swiftly moved to the scene. Four suspects fled into the bush, but police arrested Abdul Sadat Ali, 24, driver of a Toyota Voxy. Preliminary interrogation led to the arrest of Samad Issahaka, 24, driver of a Kia Rhino, identified as part of the gang.
Investigations revealed that Yahaya Seidu, 35, owner of the Kia Rhino, had instructed his driver to transport him to Buipe to purchase cattle. Knowing his employer carried cash, the driver conspired with accomplices to stage the robbery. Armed with a toy pistol, the suspects trailed the vehicle from Offinso in the Ashanti Region and attacked after passing the Portor Barrier.
Police Counter Terrorism personnel, supported by local patrol teams, pursued the fleeing suspects into the bush and arrested Abdul Rahman Mashud (21), Asigiri Avoka (25), Awini Stephen (19), and Faisal Salifu (26). A search recovered the stolen GH₵300,000, and all six suspects confessed to their involvement.
Regional Commander DCOP Shaibu A. Sadique‑Osei commended the alertness and professionalism of officers involved, assuring the public of continued commitment to safety and security in the Bono East Region.
