President John Dramani Mahama has assured residents of the Volta Region that government remains committed to addressing their concerns through practical interventions and sustained investment in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic development.
Speaking during a community engagement and question-and-answer session in Ho as part of his #ResettingGhana tour, the President interacted with traditional leaders, students, civil society groups, and residents on a wide range of issues.
On healthcare, President Mahama announced plans to upgrade the Hohoe Municipal Hospital into the Volta Regional Hospital, while strengthening the Ho Teaching Hospital’s role as the region’s premier teaching and referral facility. He disclosed that feasibility studies and designs for the project would commence in the coming months.
Turning to infrastructure, the President reaffirmed government’s commitment to implementing the national Railway Master Plan, including the Eastern Corridor Railway, to improve freight transportation, ease pressure on roads, and support economic growth. He also highlighted ongoing road investments and efforts to revive the Adidome Water Project to improve water supply.
Addressing concerns about public sector appointments, President Mahama explained that his administration had deliberately reduced the size of government to improve efficiency and reduce costs, while assuring party supporters and qualified citizens that opportunities for national service would continue to emerge.
He outlined measures to promote inclusivity, including free tertiary education for persons with disabilities in public institutions and plans to engage sign language interpreters at major health facilities to improve accessibility.
On education, the President reaffirmed government’s commitment to expanding access to quality learning through the provision of digital learning devices, construction of additional secondary schools, and the planned upgrade of Ohawu Agricultural College into a fully-fledged agricultural university. He commended students and faculty for their contributions to innovation, research, and entrepreneurship.
Concluding the engagement, President Mahama assured residents that government’s development agenda for the Volta Region would remain focused on practical solutions that improve livelihoods and accelerate national progress.
