Curfew Imposed on Nkwanta South Municipality

 The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed‑Mubarak (MP), has announced a review of curfew hours in several communities within the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

By Executive Instrument and on the advice of the National Security Council, the curfew will now run from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily, effective Monday, July 13, 2026. The affected communities include:

  • Keri
  • Abrewanko
  • Abrewanko Junction
  • Nyambo
  • Nyambo Junction
  • Shari
  • Kromase
  • Power
  • Nyakoma
  • Odomi
  • Bonakye and Nkwanta

Government has urged Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and residents to exercise restraint and adopt non‑violent means in addressing challenges confronting the area.

The Ministry further announced a total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, or offensive weapons in the affected communities. Individuals found in violation will be arrested and prosecuted.

The Interior Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the municipality, stressing that cooperation between residents and security agencies remains vital to sustaining law and order.
