Ghana Issues Advisory on Sierra Leone’s Mandatory Health Declaration

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory informing the public of new health requirements introduced by the Government of Sierra Leone. Effective 18th June 2026, all travellers entering or departing Sierra Leone must complete a mandatory online Health Declaration Form within 72 hours before travel.

The advisory, released in Accra on 7th July 2026, applies to Ghanaian citizens, foreign nationals, residents returning to Sierra Leone and visitors. Travellers are required to register via the Sierra Leone Health Travel Portal, provide accurate seat numbers before departure, and retain the confirmation QR Code or Reference Number for presentation to authorities when requested.

Officials cautioned that providing false or misleading information may result in delays, denial of entry or departure clearance, or additional health screening procedures. Travellers feeling unwell before, during or after travel are advised to report to Point of Entry Health Officers and seek medical attention.

According to the Ministry, information submitted through the portal will be used for disease surveillance, prevention and public health security measures, handled confidentially in line with data protection requirements. The advisory emphasised that compliance will contribute to safer and more efficient travel while supporting regional and global public health efforts.

The Ministry urged all travellers to complete the required online declaration early to avoid delays and ensure smooth passage at Sierra Leone’s entry and exit points.
