The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the approval of salary arrears payment for eligible staff, following clearance from the Ministry of Finance.
In a circular dated April 20, 2026, the Service confirmed that the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) has been authorized to disburse arrears covering the period from August 1, 2024, to November 2025. The payments will be made in five installments beginning in May 2026.
According to the schedule, staff will receive arrears in four-month tranches across May, June, July, and August. Regional Directors have been instructed to promptly convey the information to all heads of schools to ensure that eligible staff are duly informed.
The letter, signed by Prof. Smile Dzisi (Mrs.), Acting Deputy Director-General (Management Services), emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing outstanding financial obligations within the education sector. Copies of the communication were also sent to key officials, including the Deputy Minister of Education, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Education, and the Chairman of the GES Council.
The approval marks a significant relief for teaching and non-teaching staff who have awaited the settlement of arrears, reinforcing government’s pledge to support education personnel across the country.
