The Upper East Regional Police Command has launched investigations into a robbery incident along the Zebilla–Widnaba road in the Bawku Division, which tragically resulted in the death of a police officer on duty.
Preliminary reports indicate that on Sunday, February 8, 2026, two police officers travelling towards Zebilla encountered the robbery in progress. The assailants opened fire, fatally wounding one of the officers.
A police response team rushed the injured officer to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital following a distress call, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Authorities have initiated a special operation to identify and apprehend all persons involved in the attack. The Police Command has assured the public that those responsible will face the full rigours of the law.
The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in the region, with police reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding lives and property while urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement.
