Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has held discussions with the leadership of the Association of African Universities (AAU), focusing on a proposal for the Association to be granted full diplomatic status in recognition of its continental mandate and growing global relevance.

During the meeting, the AAU expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana for the support extended to the Association, particularly during Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s tenure as Minister for Education. That support, they noted, was instrumental in securing the Association’s permanent headquarters and strengthening its institutional development.

Founded on the Pan-African vision of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the AAU was established to advance education, research, and knowledge-sharing across Africa. Today, it brings together more than 450 universities in 46 countries, serving as a vital platform for academic collaboration and policy dialogue on the continent.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed her commitment to the Association’s work and urged its leadership to intensify public engagement and stakeholder outreach. She emphasized that making the AAU’s contributions more visible would strengthen its advocacy and ensure its growing influence in shaping Africa’s higher education and research agenda.
