USA tops medal tally at Paris 2024

The United States narrowly clinched the top spot in the medal tally at the Paris Olympic Games, edging out China by a slim margin.

With a final gold medal win in women’s basketball, the US secured 40 gold, 44 silver, and 42 bronze medals, totaling 126 overall. China finished second with 40 gold, 27 silver, and 24 bronze for a total of 91 medals.

Japan claimed the bronze medal position with 45 medals, while Australia was fourth with 53. Host nation France finished fifth with 64 medals

Africa’s Performance

While the US and China dominated the overall medal count, Africa’s performance was mixed. Kenya led the continent with 11 medals, including four gold, placing 17th overall.

Other African medalists included South Africa, Algeria, Ethiopia, Egypt, Tunisia, Botswana, Uganda, Morocco, and Côte d’Ivoire.

Ghana and Nigeria were unable to secure any medals.

The next Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles in 2028.
