The Ghana Education Service (GES) has imposed a two-year ban on three senior high schools in the Eastern Region following acts of hooliganism during the recent Regional Super Zonal Sports Competition.
In a directive issued by the Regional Education Office in Koforidua, the affected schools are Koforidua Senior High Technical School (Sectech), New Juaben Senior High School (Njuasco), and New Nsutam Senior High Technical School (Nsutech).
The Regional Directorate expressed displeasure at the violent incidents that occurred before, during, and after the games, describing them as a breach of discipline and contrary to the GES Code of Conduct and the Eastern Region Schools and Colleges Sports Association (ERSSCA) Code of Discipline.
Effective February 11, 2026, the three schools are barred from organizing, participating in, or supporting any sporting activities—including football, volleyball, athletics, and related events—at school, zonal, and regional levels for the next two years.
The directive also surcharged the schools with GH₵5,000 to cover damages incurred during the disturbances. Regional Director Mrs. Ivy Asantewa Owusu (PhD), who signed the letter, cautioned that further violations of GES and ERSSCA regulations would attract additional sanctions.
This disciplinary action underscores the Education Service’s commitment to maintaining order and safeguarding the integrity of inter-school sporting activities across the region.
