The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called on Members of Parliament (MPs) to take active roles in the upcoming National General Cleaning Days scheduled for July 10 and 11, 2026, in flood-affected regions.
Delivering a statement on the floor of the House, the Speaker emphasized that Parliament fully supports the initiative announced by President John Dramani Mahama in response to the recent floods. He urged MPs to spearhead clean-up efforts in their constituencies and mobilize local authorities, community groups, and residents to participate.
Mr. Bagbin further disclosed that Parliament’s leadership is considering arrangements to allow MPs from the affected regions to return home and lead the exercise. He stressed that Parliament remains committed to supporting measures that promote environmental sanitation, protect lives, and strengthen the country’s resilience against future disasters.
The Speaker’s call comes as Ghana intensifies efforts to recover from the devastating floods, with national attention now focused on community-driven action to prevent health risks and safeguard livelihoods.
