Profile: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala Who Died In Wednesday’s Helicopter Crash

Ghana’s aviation and military fraternity has also been hit with the loss of one of its finest officers, Squadron Leader Peter Anala, who tragically perished in the military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.

Squadron Leader Anala was a senior pilot with the Ghana Air Force and one of the most respected and highly trained officers in the force. Known for his precision, professionalism, and passion for aviation, he dedicated over a decade of his life to serving Ghana in the skies, flying high-risk missions and supporting national operations with admirable dedication.

He was on duty aboard the ill-fated Ghana Armed Forces helicopter as part of a high-level security and escort mission accompanying key government officials to Obuasi for the launch of a Responsible Mining Programme. Sadly, what was meant to be another routine national assignment ended in tragedy, with the helicopter crashing into a forested area shortly after takeoff.

Colleagues describe Squadron Leader Anala as calm under pressure, detail-oriented, and deeply patriotic.

Born and raised in Ghana, Anala attended one of the elite senior high schools in the country and was later admitted into the Ghana Military Academy, where he excelled in both academics and flight training. His pursuit of excellence earned him further training abroad, where he mastered advanced aviation systems and returned home to contribute immensely to the modernization and safety of Ghana’s aerial operations.

Throughout his career, Squadron Leader Anala participated in several peacekeeping and internal security operations. His sense of duty, discipline, and service left a lasting impression on junior officers and military strategists alike.

Outside of his military career, he was a devoted family man, a husband and father of two young children.

His untimely death, along with those of other top government officials and crew members, has sent shockwaves across the country.

As investigations continue into the cause of the crash, one thing remains clear, Ghana has lost a true patriot. Squadron Leader Peter Anala gave his all to his country, even unto death.

He may have fallen from the sky he loved so much, but his name will soar on the wings of national memory for generations to come.
