Presidency Confirms Passing of Omane Boamah and Murtala Mohammed in Wednesday’s Helicopter Crash

The Presidency has officially confirmed that the Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister for Environment, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, were among the eight persons who perished in Wednesday’s tragic helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.

Addressing the nation moments ago, Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, delivered the grim news and announced that the Ghana flag will fly at half-mast across the country in honour of the fallen officials and military personnel.

The Chief of Staff described the incident as a national tragedy, deeply affecting both the government and the people of Ghana.

1. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence

2. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment

3. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

4. Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman, NDC

5. Mr. Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate

6. Squadron Leader Peter – Ghana Armed Forces

7. Flying Officer Twum Ampadu – Ghana Armed Forces

8. Sergeant Ernest Addo – Ghana Armed Forces

The victims were said to be en route to Obuasi for the launch of a Responsible Mining Programme when the military helicopter they were traveling in lost contact shortly after takeoff.

Investigations into the cause of the crash have been initiated. Meanwhile, the nation mourns the loss of these distinguished individuals whose service and dedication have left an indelible mark on Ghana’s development.
