The Ghana Police Service has postponed the full implementation of its automated traffic law enforcement programme, TRAFFITECH-GH, from October 1 to November 1, 2026.
The Police Service, through its Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), said the rescheduling is intended to allow for more extensive public education and awareness on the programme before its nationwide rollout.
A statement issued by the Police Headquarters Public Affairs Directorate said the additional period would be used to educate motorists and the general public on the operations of the system, the traffic offences it is designed to detect, and the Electronic Notice of Violation (ENV) that will be issued to offending road users.
According to the Service, TRAFFITECH-GH forms part of ongoing efforts to address indiscipline on Ghana’s roads and improve compliance with road traffic laws and regulations.
The programme is expected to employ automated technology to detect traffic violations and support enforcement measures aimed at enhancing road safety across the country.
The Police Service urged motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to take advantage of the extended transition period to familiarise themselves with the programme ahead of its implementation on November 1.
It also expressed appreciation to the media for its support throughout the introduction of the project and called for continued collaboration from stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to working with all relevant partners to improve road safety and promote responsible road use through the deployment of technology-driven enforcement measures.
