The Ashanti Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of six suspected members of an organised armed robbery syndicate, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime.
The suspects — Philip Nyarko alias “Kawawa”, Hadi Samed alias “Toronto”, Issahaku Musah alias “Islak”, Suraj Mohammed alias “Baba Nde”/“Trouble”, Hadi Abdul Majeed alias “Panie”, and Foster Owusu Afriyie alias “Joe Fraizer” — were apprehended in August by the Anti‑Armed Robbery Unit in Kumasi, acting on intelligence.
Preliminary investigations have linked the group to a series of street robberies at Kaase, Ahinsan Estate, Santasi New Site, Bronikrom, Kwadaso Estate, and other locations. Police recovered two motorcycles, machetes, knives, a laptop, an iPhone 13, five keypad mobile phones, and thirty‑three assorted mobile phones believed to be stolen.
Further inquiries led to the arrest of Augustine Agyemang Duah, suspected of assisting the syndicate in unlocking stolen mobile phones. Police noted that some of the suspects, including Nyarko and Samed, had previously been arrested in December 2025 for conspiracy to commit robbery but were granted bail.
The Command confirmed that Abdul Shattar, also linked to the syndicate, remains at large. Efforts are being intensified to apprehend him and other associates, including Andy, Umaru, Dauda, Malik, and Abdul Farouk.
Residents have been urged to provide information on the suspects’ whereabouts but cautioned not to confront them directly. Victims of robbery incidents are encouraged to contact the Police to help identify recovered exhibits.
Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, assured the public of continued intelligence‑led operations to protect lives and property, while commending the IGP’s Special Operations Team for its support in detecting crime and disrupting organised criminal activity in the Region.
