The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a man seen in a viral Facebook video allegedly assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at their residence in Ofankor, located within the Ga East Municipality.
According to a statement issued by the CID, the suspect, identified as John Odartey Lamptey, was taken into custody on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the family home.
The incident gained widespread attention after the disturbing footage circulated on social media, prompting swift action from law enforcement. Police say that following Lamptey’s arrest, his siblings — Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey — were also apprehended.
The two are alleged to have attacked a female tenant they believed was responsible for recording and sharing the viral video. Officers rescued the tenant and ensured her safety.
Authorities are currently searching for Lamptey’s wife, who reportedly fled the scene prior to the arrival of the police. Efforts are ongoing to locate her and provide protection.
The Ghana Police Service emphasized its commitment to tackling domestic violence and bringing offenders to justice. “We remain committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators face the full rigour of the law,” the statement affirmed.
The disturbing video has triggered strong reactions across social media, with many Ghanaians demanding swift justice and stronger protections for survivors of domestic abuse.
