Ghana’s COVID-19 cases drop to 301
Ghana’s active COVID-19 cases continues to drop significantly with 301 cases as of Wednesday, October 7, 2020. The Greater Accra still leads the COVID-19 hotspots with 195 active cases, according to data from the Ghana Health Service. Five regions as of October 7 had no active cases. They are the Upper West, North East, Northern, Savannah and Bono Regions. Ghana has since March conducted 497,782 COVID-19 tests, out of which 47,005 were positive. Three persons are in critical condition and 12 in severe conditions. The number of recoveries/discharge is 46,398, while the total number of deaths is 306.
Six arrested in connection with illegal arms importation into Ghana
The Marine Police Unit in Tema have picked up six people in connection with an alleged attempt to illegally import arms and ammunitions into the country from Turkey. Ex-convict grabbed for allegedly impregnating step-daughter
A 54-year-old tailor, who allegedly had sex with his 15-year-old step-daughter and impregnated her at Adabraka in Accra, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. Seth Kwesi Asare, who is an ex-convict, is being held for defilement. Police said investigations revealed that Asare had previously been jailed on a similar offence. 500 Workers to lose jobs after cancellation of oil, gas contracts
Ninety-eight upstream oil and gas contracts, valued at $389 million, have been cancelled due to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Contracts awarded by Aker Energy, AGM, Eni, GOSCO and Springfield between the fourth quarter of last year and the first quarter of this year were affected. The government, with support from the World Food Programme (WFP), is to disburse funds to vulnerable persons and households in the Greater Accra, Western and Ashanti regions.
