Vice President Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang joined members of the Greater Accra Markets Association (GAMA) at their End of Year Gathering and General Meeting 2026, praising the resilience and dedication of market women whose daily efforts sustain local economies.
She acknowledged the difficult conditions under which many operate, stressing that “our market women deserve to work with dignity, safety, and peace.” According to her, addressing these concerns has already spurred accelerated infrastructure development, including market revitalization projects.
Commending GAMA for adopting a theme that promotes healthy living, the Vice President noted that economic empowerment must go hand in hand with well-being. She reaffirmed Government’s commitment to establishing the Women’s Development Bank, explaining that extensive stakeholder engagement is underway to ensure the Bank is structured for sustainability and impact.
“Our aim is not speed for its own sake, but sustainability and impact,” she emphasized. “We are determined to build progressively and deliver on a mandate that genuinely benefits those who have long been left in the gaps of our economic system. The women in our markets deserve nothing less.”
The gathering highlighted the vital role of women in sustaining families, communities, and the nation, with the Vice President underscoring that peace, stability, and resilience often begin with them.
