The high-profile prosecution involving 78 counts of corruption and corruption-related offences is expected to commence today at Criminal Court 5 in Accra, marking one of the most closely watched legal proceedings in recent years.

The case, initiated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), lists eight accused persons and one corporate entity. According to information displayed on an official case summary poster, those named in the prosecution include individuals identified as Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, Isaac Crentsil, Ernest Darko Akore, Kwadwo Damoah, Emmanuel Kofi Nti, Evans Adusei, Ammiishaddai Owusu-Amoah, as well as the company Strategic Mobilization Ghana Ltd (SML). Each is associated with a specified number of charges, totaling 78 counts across the board.

The allegations span various corruption-related offences connected to revenue administration and oversight. The commencement of the trial follows months of public scrutiny and procedural actions taken by the OSP in line with its mandate to investigate and prosecute suspected corruption and corruption-related activities in Ghana.

Security is reported to be heightened around the courthouse, with significant public and media attention expected throughout the proceedings. Legal analysts note that the trial could have far-reaching implications for governance, public accountability, and oversight systems within state institutions.

The accused persons and the corporate entity are expected to appear before the court as the charges are formally presented. Proceedings will determine whether the case advances to full trial after initial submissions and responses.
