Ocloo’s Bold Promise: 70% of Accra’s Streetlights to be Repaired in 50 Days

Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Akweley Ocloo, has made a bold commitment to restore 70% of Accra’s streetlights within the next 50 days. This move aims to enhance security and visibility in the city, with addressing faulty streetlights being one of her top priorities.

During a press briefing in Accra on February 3, Ocloo reiterated her dedication to upgrading the capital’s infrastructure, ensuring well-lit streets, and improving overall security.

She emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to achieve these goals.

“In fact, within 50 days in office, all these things should be fixed. I will make sure that at least 70 percent of the streetlights should be fixed.

“So these are some of the things we are going to check, and like I said, I am going to work together with the MMDAs.”

Ocloo also outlined her key priority areas for Accra, focusing on security and sanitation. To tackle sanitation, she announced plans to reintroduce the Regional Sanitation Day and launch an award scheme for the cleanest city.

Additionally, she aims to support local district assemblies in becoming self-sustaining, aligning with the government’s “Resetting Agenda.”

To foster deeper decentralization and participatory governance, Ocloo intends to work closely with traditional authorities and religious organizations.

Her commitment to transforming Accra’s infrastructure and improving the lives of its residents is clear, and the next 50 days will be crucial in achieving these objectives.
