Obuasi Police Arrest 40 in Dawn Raids

The Obuasi Police Command has arrested 40 suspects in coordinated dawn swoops on suspected criminal and drug peddling hideouts across Obuasi and nearby communities.

The operation, carried out on Monday, December 16, 2025, between 5:00 a.m. and 10:20 a.m., was led by ASP Adam Muakalu with officers drawn from the Divisional Operations Unit, Obuasi District, and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) Obuasi Base.

According to a police situation report, the exercise targeted Bedieso, Kunka Junction, Abompe, and Akaporiso.

At Bedieso, eight suspects were arrested after officers discovered dried leaves suspected to be cannabis in a black polythene bag behind the spot where the suspects were apprehended.

The team later moved to Kunka Junction, where one suspect was found with a wrapped package of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis. Eleven others who attempted to flee upon seeing the police were rounded up and arrested.

At Abompe, police arrested several suspects allegedly smoking in a ghetto. Two bottles of alcohol suspected to have been laced with cannabis were retrieved.

The operation extended to Akaporiso, where officers seized another quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis from a suspect. Additional arrests were made at the back of an uncompleted building, where suspects were allegedly smoking and drinking alcohol. A pack of tramadol was also confiscated.

In all, 40 suspects were taken into custody and are assisting police with investigations. The seized exhibits are being retained at the station for forensic examination.

Police say suspects found with illegal substances will be arraigned before court “as soon as possible.”

Detective Chief Inspector Odoom Stephen of the District Criminal Investigations Department (DCID), Obuasi, assured the public that sustained operations will continue “to clamp down on criminal activities and improve safety within the municipality.”
