The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been struck by tragedy following the death of its polling station chairman for Ninkyiso in Assin Breku, who was involved in a fatal motorbike accident on Friday, November 14. The incident occurred while he was attending a campaign programme for flagbearer aspirant Bryan Acheampong.
The deceased, identified as Yahya, was riding alongside the constituency’s Nasara coordinator, Vilinke Mohammed, when their motorbike was reportedly hit by another speeding rider. Both men were rushed to St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu for urgent medical care.
Sadly, Yahya succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Sunday, November 16. Vilinke Mohammed, who suffered a severe head injury, remains in critical condition at the hospital.
A third victim, Kwaku Mensah, who was said to be travelling from Manso to Assin Adiembra for a funeral, also sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at the same facility.
Commenting on the incident on Monday, November 17, NPP Constituency Organiser Collins Egyiri explained: *“I was informed about the accident while preparations were ongoing for Mr Bryan Acheampong’s visit to meet delegates today.
“Our national coordinator is seriously injured, and the brother who is the polling station chairman at Ejisu was also involved.”*
