The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled October 3, 2026, for the election of its National Executives, with the process for opening and closing of nominations set to run from August 17 to 22, this year.
This is contained in an update issued by the Party’s National Elections Committee to all stakeholders, dated August 11, 2026, and signed by the Chairman of the Committee, Mr Frederick Opare-Ansah.
The update, made pursuant to Article 10 (2) of the Party’s Constitution, as amended, and other relevant provisions of the Constitution, rules and regulations governing National Executive Elections, outlined the full roadmap towards the polls.
According to the timetable, filing of nomination forms would take place from August 23 to 27, while vetting of aspirants would be conducted from August 31 to September 3.
Publication of the vetting results is expected on September 9, with appeals against the outcome to be entertained from September 6 to 10. The National Executive Committee (NEC) is expected to meet on September 10, after which a Notice of Poll would be issued on September 14, ahead of the elections on October 3.
The positions to be contested include National Chairman, National Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Women Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Nasara Organiser and National Communication Director.
Nomination Fees
The Committee announced that nomination forms would be sold at GH¢50,000 for National Chairman, GH¢30,000 for Vice Chairpersons, GH¢25,000 for General Secretary, GH¢10,000 for all other positions, and GH¢5,000 for the Special Wings positions covering Nasara, Women and Youth.
Payment, the statement said, would be accepted in cash or by bank cheque at the Party’s National Headquarters at Asylum Down, upon which an official receipt would be issued for the collection of the appropriate nomination form. Aspirants who download forms from the Party’s website would still be required to pay the prescribed fee and obtain an official receipt before their completed forms could be accepted for filing.
Eligibility
To qualify, an aspirant must be a known and active registered Party member of good character, in good standing with membership dues paid for at least the past two years, and must have paid the prescribed fees. The aspirant must also be cleared by the National Vetting Committee, while a candidate for National Youth Organiser must not be above 40 years. Every nomination form is required to be endorsed by at least one member in good standing from each of the 16 regions.
Members of the National Elections Committee are barred from contesting the elections, and any member of the Committee who wishes to contest would be required to be replaced by the National Executive Committee.
Vetting and Appeals
The National Vetting Committee, chaired by Hon Cecilia Abena Dapaah, would be responsible for vetting all aspirants and has the discretion to disqualify anyone who fails to satisfy the eligibility requirements. Other members of the Vetting Committee are Hon Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Hon Salifu Saeed, Amb (Dr) Baffour Agyei-Bawuah, Hon Elizabeth Ohene, Hon Osei Prempeh, Mr Eric Ntori and the Ashanti Regional Chairman, with Mr Evans Nimako serving as Secretary.
Any aspirant dissatisfied with a decision of the Vetting Committee may petition the National Appeals Committee, chaired by Hon Joe Ghartey, which is mandated to determine such petitions within 48 hours. A further and final appeal against the Appeals Committee’s decision may be lodged with the National Executive Committee.
Voting
Persons entitled to vote at the National Delegates Conference include all members of the National Council, the National and Regional Executive Committees, Constituency and External Branch Executive Committees, the Council of Elders, the National TESCON Coordinator, TESCON presidents of accredited tertiary institutions, 30 National Patrons, Founding Members who signed the Party’s registration documents, all Party Members of Parliament, and the Special Organs — the National Women’s, Youth and Nasara Wings.
Every female delegate at the Conference, including TESCON Women Commissioners, would be eligible to vote for the National Women Organiser, while every accredited youth delegate, including TESCON Presidents, would vote for the National Youth Organiser. The National Nasara Organiser would be elected by National, Regional, Constituency and External Branch Nasara Coordinators and their deputies, together with all TESCON Nasara Coordinators.
The Committee said the presence of at least one-third of delegates would be required to constitute a quorum for the Conference.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana is expected to conduct the elections under the supervision of the National Elections Committee, in line with the Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574).
