NIA Launches Child Registration Drive at Premium Centres Nationwide

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has officially commenced the registration of Ghanaian children aged 6 to 14 years at all Premium Centres across the country. This initiative marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s quest to build a comprehensive and inclusive National Identity Register (NIR), ensuring that every citizen—from childhood—is accounted for in the national database.

In a press release issued by the Authority, the NIA emphasized that the exercise aligns with its legal mandate to register all Ghanaians, both locally and abroad. The move is expected to enhance access to essential services, improve identity verification, and strengthen national planning efforts.

Registration at Premium Centres attracts a fee of GHS 310 and is strictly by appointment. Parents and legal guardians are required to present one of the following documents for their child’s registration:

  • A valid Ghanaian passport of the child; or
  • The original birth certificate of the child; or
  • A Ghana Card belonging to either parent or legal guardian.

Beginning Monday, 15th September 2023, the NIA will expand its online registration and booking system to cover all Premium Centres nationwide. Parents and guardians must book appointments via the official NIA website (www.nia.gov.gh) before visiting any centre.

The Authority has encouraged the public to take advantage of this opportunity to secure legal identity for their children, noting that early registration will ease future access to education, healthcare, and other public services.

For further inquiries, the NIA has provided multiple contact channels including a call centre, WhatsApp line, and email support.

This latest development underscores the NIA’s commitment to modernizing identity management and ensuring that no Ghanaian is left behind.
