Minority In Parliament Mourns Victims Of Military Helicopter Crash

The Minority in Parliament has expressed profound grief following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, including two cabinet ministers, a national security official, and three military personnel.

In a heartfelt statement issued and signed by Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the caucus extended its deepest condolences to the President, bereaved families, and the nation at large.

According to the statement, the helicopter crash, confirmed earlier in the day by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, represents a “profound human loss that touches the very soul of our Nation.”

“These were fathers, husbands, sons, and devoted patriots who awakened this fateful Wednesday morning with the noble intention of serving Ghana,” the Minority Leader said.

Afenyo-Markin offered personal reflections on both Dr. Murtala Mohammed and Dr. Omane Boamah, recalling their dedication to public service and their passion for Ghana’s development beyond the boundaries of politics. He described the late Murtala Mohammed as a man whose love for environmental protection transcended political lines, and Dr. Omane Boamah as a scholar and patriot deeply committed to the modernization of Ghana’s armed forces.

The Minority pledged full support to the President during what it described as “a moment of national tragedy,” adding that “your loss is our loss; your grief is our grief.”

In honouring the fallen, the Minority called on Ghanaians to recommit to the ideals the deceased stood for public service, national unity, environmental preservation, and security.

“May their souls rest in perfect peace, and may their memories remain everlasting beacons of light, guiding us towards a more united and prosperous Ghana,” the statement concluded.
