Minority Demands Arrest Over Closure of NHIS Office in Tema Central

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has called for the immediate arrest of individuals involved in the unlawful closure of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) office in Tema Central.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Thursday, February 12, the Caucus condemned the act, describing it as a direct assault on public order and an obstruction of essential healthcare services. The NHIS, they stressed, exists to serve vulnerable citizens and must not be weaponized for partisan disputes.

The Minority outlined that the closure amounted to unlawful interference with a public institution and insisted that law enforcement authorities act decisively to apprehend those responsible. They warned that failure to enforce the law would set a dangerous precedent, undermining state authority and eroding public confidence in governance.

They further emphasized that health services should never be disrupted for political leverage, noting that citizens seeking registration, renewals, and claims processing should not suffer because of internal disagreements.

The Caucus demanded the swift reopening of the NHIS office and restoration of full services. “The rule of law must prevail, and accountability must be immediate and visible,” the statement concluded.
