The Majority Caucus in Parliament, under the leadership of Mahama Ayariga, has expressed its sympathies to the family of the late former First Lady, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra. She was 76 years old.
In a statement, the Caucus said:“The Majority Caucus in Parliament of Ghana has learnt with shock, the reported sudden death of Her Excellency, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, former 1st Lady and wife of H.E Flt Lt. J.J Rawlings and the mother of our dear, Hon. Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Klottey-Korle and Chairperson of the Security & Intelligence Committee of Parliament.
On behalf of the entire Majority Members of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Speaker Bagbin and the entire Parliament of Ghana, we wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family and the Nation for this great loss. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. She paid her dues to this Country.”
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was a trailblazer in championing women’s rights and social equality, earning recognition for her decades of activism through the 31st December Women’s Movement.
She served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 until 2001 and later established herself as a political figure in her own right.
