Mahama Opens 2026 Mining Sector Local Content Summit in Takoradi

 President John Dramani Mahama has officially opened the 2026 Mining Sector Local Content Summit, calling for a bold transformation of Ghana’s mineral industry to drive national development.

Addressing industry leaders, traditional authorities, and international partners, the President emphasized the need to move beyond raw ore exports toward local beneficiation, downstream processing, and world-class industrial growth.

He outlined five strategic pillars to advance local content in the sector:

  • Transforming local procurement into transformational partnerships.
  • Promoting refineries, industrial clusters, and value-added mineral processing.
  • Developing a skilled, tech-savvy workforce for mining.
  • Driving digital, sustainable, and innovation-led mining practices.
  • Encouraging indigenous Ghanaian ownership of major mining projects.

President Mahama stressed that Ghana’s greatest export should ultimately be “talent, technology, and enterprise,” urging government, industry, and investors to forge a shared national pact that strengthens the mining sector while delivering tangible benefits to local communities.

The summit, held in Takoradi, is expected to serve as a platform for dialogue on how Ghana can harness its mineral wealth to build a resilient economy and ensure inclusive growth.
