Laeticia Amihere Becomes First Ghanaian to be Drafted to the WNBA

Canadian-born Ghanaian Laeticia Amihere has been selected by Atlanta Dream in the Women’s National Basketball Association draft.

The 21-year-old was the eighth overall pick in the draft and becomes the first female basketball player from Ghana to be drafted to the WNBA.

Although her parents are from Ghana, Amihere represents the Canadian national female basketball team.

The 6-foot-4 player is expected to hit the ground running in the WNBA following her rich experience with South Carolina women’s basketball team.

Amihere was part of the team that won multiple conference titles, made two Final Four appearances and won a national championship in 2022.

At a very young age, the Canadian-Ghanaian has already played in the World Cup and the Olympic Games.
