Kusasi Chief in Ashanti region shot dead at home in Asawase

The Kusasi Chief in the Ashanti Region, Abdul-Malik Azenbe, has allegedly been shot and killed by unknown assailants at his residence in Asawase.

The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, July 22, 2025, near the Asawase F-Line Community Centre in the Ashanti Region. According to eyewitness accounts, two men arrived on a motorbike at approximately 8:40 p.m., with one reportedly armed with an AK-47 rifle. Without warning, the gunman opened fire on the chief before both assailants sped off into the night.

Chief Azenbe, who had only recently been enskinned as Kadi Naaba three months ago, was rushed to the Manhyia District Hospital and later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The late chief also held the position of Kaadi Divisional Area Chief in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region, where he was widely respected for his leadership and commitment to community development.

In the wake of the tragedy, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and pledged a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Police have since launched a full-scale probe into the killing, and security presence in the area has been significantly increased to prevent further unrest and reassure residents.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but the incident has reignited concerns about rising insecurity and targeted violence in parts of the country. Community leaders and residents are calling for swift action and greater protection for traditional authorities.
