Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has confirmed that Israeli authorities have issued an apology following the deportation of three Ghanaian nationals, urging calm in the ongoing diplomatic dispute.
Appearing on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, December 12, Mr. Ablakwa stressed that Ghana would continue to respond firmly to any unjustified treatment of its citizens abroad.
“The Israeli authorities have now apologised for the action they carried out and have called for de-escalation because we made it clear that if they deported 10 Ghanaians, we will deport 10, 20 will deport 20, 50 will deport 50. We are not going to accept this,” he said, describing Israel’s justification as “absolutely untenable.”
The apology followed Ghana’s retaliatory deportation of three Israeli nationals, a move the government said was necessary to protect the dignity and rights of its citizens.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 10, 2025, revealed that two of the deported Ghanaians had been attending a cybersecurity conference, while the third was on pilgrimage. All three were reportedly expelled under circumstances the government deemed unacceptable.
Officials explained that Ghana’s response was grounded in its rights under the Vienna Convention, emphasizing that the expulsion of the Israeli nationals was a reminder that Ghanaian citizens must be safeguarded wherever they are.
Mr. Ablakwa reiterated that the government’s stance was not only about reciprocity but also about ensuring fairness and respect in international relations. He underscored that Ghanaian citizens, regardless of their background, deserve protection and dignity abroad.
