Interior Ministry Orders Probe into Alleged Assassination Attempt on Special Prosecutor

The Ministry of the Interior has directed a full-scale investigation into claims that the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, survived two assassination attempts while carrying out his duties.

The Ministry’s attention was drawn to the matter after the Director of Strategy, Research and Communications at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Samuel Appiah Darko, disclosed on Newsfile, a television programme in Accra on December 6, 2025, that Mr. Agyebeng had survived assassination attempts. Mr. Darko also alleged that he had been handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel.

In a statement, the Interior Ministry noted that initial contacts with Mr. Agyebeng revealed the alleged attempts occurred before this year. However, there is no record of such threats at any police station or state security agency.

The Minister of the Interior has therefore ordered investigations into both the alleged assassination attempts and Mr. Darko’s claims of assault by police officers. The Ministry emphasised that “since crime does not expire,” the matter will be pursued with the seriousness it deserves.

Officials stressed that such dangers, if true, could undermine government’s intensified efforts to combat corruption and weaken public confidence in accountability institutions.

The Ministry assured the public that updates will be provided on the outcome of the investigations and reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property so that all Ghanaians can go about their lawful activities without fear.
