Interior Minister Extends Curfew in Nkwanta South Municipality

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak-Mohammed, has officially extended the curfew imposed on Nkwanta township and its adjoining communities within the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region. The renewed directive takes effect from Thursday, September 4, 2025.

The revised curfew hours are now set from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. each day. This decision was made based on recommendations from the Oti Regional Security Council and formalized through an Executive Instrument.

In a public statement, the Minister urged traditional authorities, community influencers, youth groups, and residents to exercise restraint and resolve local tensions through peaceful and constructive dialogue. He emphasized the importance of unity and non-violence in restoring calm to the area.

The prohibition on carrying firearms, ammunition, and any form of dangerous weapons remains firmly in place. Security forces have reiterated that violators of this directive will face arrest and legal action.

The Ministry continues to monitor the situation closely and assures the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and order in the region.
