The Vice President and Chairperson of the Ghana Armed Forces Council, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, is expected to lead a high-powered delegation to commiserate with the families of those who lost their lives in Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.
The visit, scheduled for later this week, will include senior military officials and other members of the Armed Forces Council. It forms part of efforts by the state and the Ghana Armed Forces to extend support and express solidarity with the bereaved families during this period of national mourning.
The Ghana Armed Forces lost several high-ranking officers and security personnel in the crash, which occurred as the aircraft was reportedly en route to a government function in Obuasi. Investigations into the cause of the crash are currently ongoing, and the government has pledged a thorough inquiry.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, who also chairs the Armed Forces Council, is expected to deliver a message of condolence on behalf of President John Mahama and the government. The visit will also offer the families an opportunity to receive official updates and support from the military establishment.
The government has since declared a period of mourning, with flags flying at half-mast nationwide in honour of the fallen officers
