Helicopter Crash: Emergency Meeting Ongoing at Environment Ministry Following Minister’s Death

Officials at the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation have convened an emergency meeting in the wake of the tragic death of the sector Minister, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who perished in Wednesday’s helicopter crash.

Although the agenda of the closed-door meeting remains unclear, it is widely expected that the Human Resource Department will formally break the news to staff and outline interim measures to ensure continuity of work at the Ministry.

A sombre mood has engulfed the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra, where staff have gathered in the main conference room, anxiously awaiting official communication from management. Many employees were visibly distraught as they tried to come to terms with the sudden loss of the Minister.

Dr. Murtala Mohammed was among the eight persons on board the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter that crashed while en route to a government function in the Ashanti Region.
